Book one project- promoting the Hunger Games books

My first idea to better promote the book Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins would be to create a Hunger Games theme park located in Cincinnati OH (because none of the cool theme parks are ever built in Cincy). The park would be set up like Disney Land or Disney World where there are the different country’s you could visit or experience, though here you would be able to visit all the different districts included in the book straight from the capital to the secret district 13 that you would have to have the special password to access. Also, included at the park would be the interactive Hunger Games game, where you would be transported straight into the games and given a chance to experience what Katniss and Peeta had to go through. The idea behind this is that many people would want to experience what happens in the books and be able to live it for themselves so why not just build a theme park for it? This idea would successfully target every person who enjoys the book, and I also believe it would target people who haven’t read the books yet but would be interested to. Therefore, by visiting the park, the people would be convinced to go buy the book so they could read it for themselves. The park would be set up like the Harry Potter word shown here on this map, though would obviously be a whole park dedicated to the Hunger Games books.

District Twelve. Where you can starve to death in safety. Katniss Everdeen

In the book, Katniss is given a mocking jay pin before she is sent out to her first Hunger Games and the second idea of mine to promote the book would be to take this symbol and make different types of jewelry out of it. Necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, every type of jewelry would be made including this symbol. Not only would this people but this because of it being in the book, but also random people would see it in a store and it would be so pretty they would just want to buy it, even though they’ve never read the book. And by reaching out to these people, the book would get a larger audience. I believe the target for this would be mostly teenage girls who like the books though it’s possible that it could interest many other people
They let you wear one thing from your district in the arena. One thing to remind you of home. Will you wear this? Madge Undersee

In order to better promote this book to younger children I have designed the Hunger Games Survival Kit Pack for kids. This kit would be used when smaller kids are playing and would like to pretend they are in the Hunger Games. In the kit there would be the essential items needed to survive in the games. Included in this would be a small amount of food and water, different simple types of medications and basic first aid items along with a weapon to use in defending yourself and a shield. Using these items would ensure your survival in the Hunger Games, real or fake. By targeting the younger audience, word about the book would spread faster therefore getting more readers and making the book more popular.
“Here’s some advice. Stay alive.”
 -Haymitch Abernathy
This quote goes along with my Survival Kit idea because Katniss was given the advice to stay alive and had she had this wonderful survival guide, her survival would have been much easier and less deadly to her.

What is a book?

Ah books, books, books. I believe that a book is like a pencil, marker, paintbrush, etc. It's a medium of art that the writer uses to express themselves. To me books are like paintings and sculptures, forms of art that have multiple interpretations and hidden treasures. Each person has their own way of thinking about it and processing the information within it along with their own individual opinions about them. I believe a paint brush would most represent a book because of the many different options you have with painting, you can go from one color or idea to the next and mix paints to create the perfect color. It’s like putting all your ideas out onto a paint pallet and mixing them together as you please to create a creative unique original piece of art. I have struggled with the eBook vs. book debate a lot recently, trying to decide what side I’m on. For me I believe it depends on the book along with the situation. Some days I could care less how I read the book just as long as I can have access to the story while other days I prefer to have a real book in my hands to read. I also believe that the classics should be read as they were meant to me. At the time I’m sure an author never imagined that there would be the possibility of eBooks and electronic books, therefore I believe that we should read the book how they imagined and wanted us to read their story, with a book in our hands with words printed on the pages. I do think that there is something “magical” about a book just because of the fact that it can have a history. You never know who could have at one point held the book and read it themselves and how far around the world it’s possible that it has gone, the possibilities are endless. When books were “invented” so to say they were meant to be written words on paper for us to psychically hold and read, so I think that we need to keep things that way. Preserve the way that books were entitled to be.

Why do YOU read?

I’ve grown up being surrounded by books; my whole life (thus far) has been filled with them. I can remember at a young age being at a much higher reading level than majority of my peers, I was in the “cool, elite” group that got to read black level books (the level at the school library that was the highest. Reading has always been something that I have loved and enjoyed. One main reason I believe I love to read it because I imagine books like movie scripts. As I’m reading, the movie is playing in my head and I have the ability to imagine all the details given to through the text and to add small details of my own to the story, to put my own spin on it.  The idea that with reading I can go, be, and do whatever I want has always attracted me to more books. I have the ability to go from being in the Hunger Games to being thrust into upper Manhattan at a prep school, the possibilities are endless.  I can spend an afternoon sitting on my window seat getting pulled into and twisted into a new life, with a new character with a new plot. Another reason I read is to get inspiration for other things and pieces I could be writing myself. As I read I can take small details from many different story’s and combine them together, give it a new twist and BAM! You’ve got yourself a best seller of your own J
